Institution, Disposal and the Case Clearance Rate at a glance

While the opening balance at the beginning of 2024 was 18,73,312, the closing balance at the end of the year was 19,20,825. Total institution during the year was 4,99,030 and the disposal was 4,56,352 cases at a Case Clearance Rate of 91.45%. The disposal of cases in District Courts increased by 7.02% in 2024 as compared to the disposal in 2023. The institution and disposal figure of both 2023 and 2024 includes the cases received from and transferred to other Courts. The institution of Criminal cases increased due to filing of 42,819 cases under the M.V. Act as a result of automatic challan based on CCTV image capture. Disposal in the months of March, May, September and December, 2024 was comparatively higher due to disposal in Lok Adalat held in those months. Disposal in the month of June, 2024 decreased due to less number of working days. Similarly, disposal in the month of October, 2024 decreased on account of Durga Puja Holidays.

Judicial Officers’ working strength and loss of working hours

240 working days are allotted for judicial working of the District Courts and each working day consists of 6 working hours. Average working strength of the district court judges against the average sanctioned strength of 1028 in 2024 was 837.5. Average loss of working days in 2024 was 0.011 days due to cease work. The cumulative loss of judicial working hours of all the district courts was 55.275 hours (6 hours x 0.011 days x 837.5 active strength of Judicial Officers = 55.275 hours). During the year 2024 Judgments have been pronounced in 32,382 Civil cases, out of which 18,432 are contested cases and 13,950 are un-contested cases. Similarly, Judgments have been pronounced in 1,25,211 Criminal cases, out of which 1,04,863 are contested cases and 20,348 are un-contested cases. In toto judgments delivered in the year 2024 both in Civil and Criminal cases were 1,57,593.

Details of over 40 years old cases in the year 2024

In the beginning of the year 2024, 23 numbers of civil cases and 03 numbers of criminal cases over 40 years old were pending. During the year, 28 Civil cases of more than 40 years old and 12 criminal cases of more than 40 years old have been disposed of. At the end of the year 2024, in toto 40 numbers of both Civil and Criminal Cases were disposed of and 36 cases were pending.
