
The erstwhile Princely State of Mayurbhanj was merged into the state of Odisha on 1st January, 1949, and the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, Mayurbhanj, was established simultaneously.
The District Court is functioning in a two-storied heritage building on an area of 9,072 sq. ft. There are 16 courtrooms, five of which are functioning in the heritage building, and the rest are functioning adjacent to the said building in the premises of the Civil Court. 36 different Courts are functioning in the Judgeship with outlying stations at Rairangpur, Udala, Karanjia, Betnoti, Morada, Thakurmunda, Rasgovindpur, and Jashipur.
The Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centre was inaugurated at Baripada on 21.09.2024 for ensuring the safety and dignity of vulnerable witnesses while recording their evidence.
