Malkangiri was carved out from Koraput Judgeship on 2nd October 1992. The Judgeship started functioning independently from 20th April 2013. 14 different Courts are functioning in the Judgeship with outlying stations at Motu (MV-79), Mathili, Kudumuluguma, and Korukunda at Malkangiri. The new District Court building was inaugurated on 10th September 2021.

All courts in the headquarters at Malkangiri were functioning as paperless courts in 2024.

Various legal awareness programmes were organized, such as “Rights of Transgenders,” Road Safety Programme, and other topics.
