The Judgeship of Puri started functioning from 15th July 1957 with its headquarters at Puri. The District Court building was established on 25th April 1971. 35 different courts are functioning in the Judgeship with outlying stations at Nimapara, Pipili, Brahmagiri, Kanas, and Konark.

The Court and Office of the District and Sessions Judge was inspected on 30.11.2024 by Justice K.R. Mohapatra, Administrative Judge of Puri Judgeship.

Training Programmes on Standard Operating Procedure for creating accessible court documents and e-court capacity building were organised in 2024 to train and sensitise the court staff with evolving changes.

A legal awareness stall was set up during the Rath Yatra Festival in Puri to gain wider outreach and sensitise more people regarding various legal schemes and services.
